IWSG (SEPT 20)

Happy IWSG and thanks as always to Alex and his co-hosts this month.

What times we live in. My energy levels and creativity have been up and down for months. I find writing comes in little surges, sometimes just 2 or 3 hundred words at a time. I never used to be like that. I used to enjoy sitting for hours getting lost in my stories, now my concentration is much less. I guess it has happened to lots of us. Things may well change again, life is far from certain these days.

But I will celebrate my small writing achievements and try not to get too stressed by my seeming lack of productive. I will remember that small steps lead to bigger ones.

How is everyone else doing?

  1. I'm mostly editing now. I'm anxious to get back to actual writing. I'm anxious to get back to normal in our world!

  5. Those little surges are something, though. Embrace them. Celebrate all words written, even 100 words. <3

  8. Hi Suzanne - the main thing is to keep sane ... I've mentally adjusted into next year - so am ready for a winter of mostly reading and writing blog posts - which on occasions need some research. And then connecting one way or another with a few friends and bloggers ... I'm just glad it's just me!! Look after yourself and the family - all the best - Hilary

  9. I hope it gets easier for you to write again soon. For most of this year, I've been redrafting, so I had most of the words there already and I was just moving them around a bit. I'm currently trying to write a short story, but I've got far too much virus in it, and I don't think it's working :-(

  11. I so hear you, Suzanne! My emotions, energy, and creativity are all over the place. I thought I would be more productive in a number of things since I was forced to be home. Ha! But autumn is coming and the cooling weather is perking me up. Good luck to you and celebrate your small writing achievements! You're moving forward!

  12. Whatever you can manage is a triumph, I say.
I pretty much have no energy at any time, and the stress from the pandemic and the fact that an Orange Hell-Beast has taken over the White House saps the energy that I already didn't have.

  13. I find creative energy ebbs and flows. Like the weather. Some seasons we see lots of rain; other times, there's a drought. And also, this year has been distracting. A pandemic, a presidential election in the U.S., and also, for some reason, the universe threw in murder hornets...

A few hundred words here and there adds up, though, so that's good news. I'm a big believer that slow and steady can win the race.

    Happy writing, Suzanne!
