Celebrate the small things

I seem to have let two week slip by without posting again. My excuse (if I need one!) is that I have been focusing a lot on editing my ms. Any spare time has been donated to working on it and I am pleased with the way it is progressing so it has been time well spent.

I also sent out a couple of submissions of other work. I like to try and have things out and being read as much as possible. You never know where it may lead. Anyone who has ever submitted to agents or publishers will know how particular guidelines can vary so it is worth checking them carefully. It is amazing how long putting it all together can take and I spent a couple of evenings working on them.

In other news, I would like to thank our new dehumidifier. We were finding we were having a bit of a problem with damp so decided to invest in one. It seems to be making a difference so glad we did.

Finally, a few photos of the flowers I received for my recent birthday. I was very lucky and the house was full of a wonderful selection of blooms. Very cheery on the dark, wet days we have been having too. Other presents included a pile of new books (thank you lovely daughters) and a gorgeous necklace and bracelet from hubs.

Happy weekend everyone.

Celebrate the small things

I am on the brink of a celebration that sort of starts this weekend. I'll just whisper it for now but it's my birthday next Tuesday. And it is one of those with a '0' on the end so I guess it is something special. I don't really worry about age - it's a number and I much prefer words to numbers anyway, but it's a milestone to mark so happy birthday to me! It starts today because our youngest is coming home for the weekend so we can celebrate together. Tuesday will be a work day so it makes sense to celebrate a day or two early.

Last weekend I spent some time getting stuck into my manuscript. I hadn't worked on it over Christmas so was a little apprehensive  how I'd feel about it, but I am pleased to say I am happy with how it is progressing. There are a couple of plot issues I need to address but I feel quite confident so far.

Managed two different types of exercise classes this week. Again, this sort of slid over the festive period but pleased to be getting back into things again. Amazing how quickly you seem to lose the fitness . . . or maybe that's an age thing!

Happy weekend

Celebrate the small things

Have you all eased yourselves into the new year yet? Already we're a week into it and time is rushing along as fast as last year but I wanted to pause for a moment and consider those small things that can make a big difference!

Often we start the new year with claims that we are going to eat healthier, take more exercise and so on. Well this year I do mean it! Healthy fruit and veggie smoothies are going down great in our household at the moment. Having one for breakfast seems to really fill me up so I am not tempted to snack before lunch! They only take a few minutes to make and I can drink it while getting ready for work. So far it seems like a win win situation!

I am planning to reconnect with my manuscript this weekend. I am excited to dive back in and see how the characters are feeling after the holidays. I hope I will be able to report good progress soon.

Happy weekend!

First IWSG of 2016

Happy New Year to you all

I hope you all enjoyed the holidays and are feeling ready to embrace the year ahead. I haven't been around much online for a couple of weeks and am only now dipping my toe back into the water! I am sad that I haven't had time for writing since before Christmas but I am planning to get back into that over the next few days. In some ways I think it is a good thing as it will have given me some distance in which to re-approach  my editing and revisions with fresh eyes.

I haven't made any particular resolutions for the new year, nor set myself any deadlines yet, however, I am looking to have a submission ready manuscript in the next few months. I am trying not to let any niggling insecurities push their way in and spoil my new year positivity. Here's hoping that 2016 will be a great writing year!
