IWSG (May 2019)

Thanks to Alex and this month's team of co-hosts: Lee Lowery, Juneta Key, Yvonne Ventresca, and T. Powell Coltrin

Writing is hard - some days I wonder why I do it!

"A writer is someone for whom writing is more difficult than it is for other people."

-Thomas MannEssays of Three Decades

Trouble is, I can't really imagine my life without doing it! I feel like I am truly me when I write and when it is going well it is the best feeling in the world.

"I can shake off everything as I write; my sorrows disappear, my courage is reborn."

-Anne Frank

But I am suffering with some self-doubt right now. Can I plot a new story idea and find the words to bring the idea to life? I've actually got two ideas in the early stages, I've done a few thousands words on each of them. Right now I'm not sure which one to focus on and with both of them the plot is feeling quite fragile. I know I'm a pantser but I am trying to change and map out the plot.

“And by the way, everything in life is writable about if you have the outgoing guts to do it, and the imagination to improvise. The worst enemy to creativity is self-doubt.”

― Sylvia Plath

  1. Keep working on both and soon the one with the stronger pull will let itself be known. Then it's write away!

  3. Just go with what feels right! Whatever idea is pulling your attention is probably the one to work on, and take everything one step at a time. You can do it!

  4. Maybe work on both until you decide which is the one you really want to focus on. Or you might learn that you can write two projects at one time. You multi-task in many jobs. Good luck.

  5. I can't imagine my life without writing, either. And I've even said that I wanted to quit (in bad moments), but I knew I wouldn't really be able to.

  6. Yeah, some days can make one wonder, but keep on keeping on we must.

  7. Hi Suzanne - as you mull the ideas around, and write further words - the stronger will appear ... we plod on as always - can't help that side ... we take time out occasionally too - good luck - cheers Hilary

  8. The answer to your questions are "yes, you can". I'm not doubting your ability and desire. Don't doubt.
