IWSG Day Question: Win or not, do you usually finish your NaNo project? Have any of them gone on to be published?
I have never taken part in NaNo so this one is not really relevant to me! Having to produce a set number of words in a short time just wouldn't work for me and my writing style at present.
Following on from this question, I am happy to report that work continues on my first draft and I am about three quarters of the way through. I would like to finish it by early December so that I can let it rest a bit over the festive period and then dive back into the editing and re-write in the New Year.
Easy right?
The fact is I am feeling anxious about it. My writing is a little sporadic at the moment which means I struggle to get back into the flow of the plot when I go back to the manuscript. However, I do have a plan that will hopefully allow me to schedule some regular writing time. Wish me luck!
Best of luck to anyone taking part in NaNo this month, may the words flow for us all.

Hi Suzanne - you've had and have lots going on .. then writing time falls down the list - but not the creative thoughts happening ... so good luck with your planning and settling back into your MS mode - cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteWith winter on the horizon I'm sure your writing will get back to full normality Suzanne. Family issues and events must and do take priority.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful Novemeber,
Yvonne.
I've never done NaNo either. I have too much going on and write too slow. Awesome you're nearing the end of your story. Hope you make your goal, but if you don't, you'll get there soon.
ReplyDeleteSo pleased your draft is coming along nicely, Suzanne. Keep up the good work and have a lovely month.
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome you are getting closer to the end with your first draft. Good luck meeting your goal of early December - you can do it! :)
ReplyDeleteYou're close to the end. Just keep after it. Then you can relax through the holidays.
ReplyDeleteKeep going. I know what you mean about sporadic writing. I have the same problem. You're so close and you can do it!!! Once your draft is complete you can relax for the holidays.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes for your new plan! I know what it's like to have those sporadic writing moments.
ReplyDeleteGetting there indeed. Keep on plugging away and it shall be done.
ReplyDeleteThe artificial constraints of Nano aren't for everybody. That's probably one reason why I didn't do it more than twice. That and laziness perhaps.
ReplyDeleteI wish you well with your current writing projects.

Tossing It Out
Thank you all for stopping by. I appreciate your time and comments enormously. Happy writing to you all :)
ReplyDeleteCongrats on all the progress you've made on your WIP so far! That's awesome how you're so close to the end already. Good luck wrapping up this draft by early December!
ReplyDeleteI get what you mean about NaNo, though I had to laugh a little when you say you have to make a plan to get you back to the regular writing, since that's pretty much what NaNo is for (except maybe setting sometimes unrealistic word-count goals, which I advocate ignoring). Congrats to being so near the end--keep moving, and then you can enjoy the holidays!

My IWSG Post
I always wish writers good luck with NaNo, but I never participate either.
ReplyDeleteThree quarters of the way is good going... you can see the light at the end of the tunnel.
ReplyDeleteGood luck as you tackle your first draft!
I'm in this year - and determined to finish the novel ... eventually.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on getting that far into your first draft. I can't write very fast either. I sign up for NaNo but with completely different goals and uses. As to the ups and downs, those hit so heavy during the first drafts. . .why is that, I wonder.
ReplyDeleteGoodness, I know what you mean. Sporadic. LOL. I find that if I read back over the last plot point I wrote and LOVED before moving forward (with maybe some minor tweaking/editing), my brain kicks into gear and starts spitting out the next part of the story. That's my personal method, and I'm sure it wouldn't work for everyone, but maybe give it a try?
