Celebrate the small things

Time to remember the little things that made us smile this past week. As time seems to pass so very quickly I think it is important to stop and take a moment to reflect.

My first celebration hasn't actually happened yet but I am looking forward to it this Sunday so I think it still counts! I am going to see a live screening of the musical Miss Saigon in our local cinema. This is something that is becoming quite popular here  for 'one-off' shows. It's great for people who live too far away from the big theatres to see productions. I was lucky enough to go to see Miss Saigon in the West End many years ago and am excited to relive the magic.

I regularly join a group of friends at various local quizzes. Usually in pubs or for different local charities. It makes for a fun night out and we have had some success. Small cash prizes, bottles of this or that. Last year we saved all the money we won and put it to a Christmas night out and gave the remainder to the ongoing Christmas lights fund for our town. We have been doing the same this year and have in fact collected a goodly sum to do the same this year. Helped  by a rollover jackpot win this last week! See all those weird and wonderful facts that we store in our brains over the years can be put to good use. It has also given me an idea for a short story plot line!

What are you all celebrating? Have you had a good week?

Happy Friday

  3. Sounds like fun is being had, and will be had, at your pad. A good idea is nice when it pops in too.

  5. Enjoy the show, that sounds exciting. I love a pub quiz as I'm a trivia head too. Great that you've been able to put your winnings to good use.

  6. Enjoy the show! What a great idea to have one-off shows like that. I have a friend who plays trivia at pubs and I keep thinking I should give it a try. Sounds like you guys really have fun!

  7. I'm sure you'll love the show, Suzanne. How exciting for you. It's so nice you're collecting the Christmas money for such special things. When I worked in an office, we all donated to a children's organization so they could have toys for Christmas.

  8. I cry all the time at films at home, but Miss Saigon made me cry in a theatre. Have a great time :-)

  9. I love the theatre - Enjoy! And isn't it wonderful how doing something pleasurable can also give plot ideas? It's like research seeps into pleasurable moments.... pilfering silently in the background without any real effort! :)

    Have a great weekend!

  10. I hope you have a wonderful time at the show! I went to a show on Broadway once (La Cage aux Folles), I found it overpriced (it was about $150 per person and that was in the 80s). I think I'd have enjoyed a $10 movie more. Yay for your group's big brains packed with trivia! And double yay for the activity giving you a shot story idea. Good luck!

  11. Hi Suzanne - I love those sorts of cinema shows ... I haven't been to many, but they certainly open up the doors for us to see London and Stratford productions ...

What a great idea for the quiz night wins etc ... and passing over the excess to the Christmas fund in the town ... enjoy Miss Saigon tomorrow! Cheers Hilary

  16. My 4 amigas and I went into the city a few years ago and watched a live performance of CATS. It was delightful. The following year, our granddaughter was in a performance of CATS at her school. Guess which one I loved best? Hi, Suzanne.

  17. I love musicals!! So pleased you enjoyed Miss Saigon. My favourite to date is Les Miserables - there was not a dry eye in the house (even the men were crying). Have a lovely week.

  18. I saw Miss Saigon years ago, live, and unfortunately it wasn't that amazing. That, or our tickets weren't that amazing. I'm inclined to believe it was the performance because I've seen several shows throughout the years, and that was the most disappointing one. (They didn't even have a real helicopter. *sigh*) Hey, hope you've got another awesome week ahead and some amazing things to celebrate.

  19. I've never seen Miss Saigon, but I've heard good things about it. I think your quiz fund is a lovely idea - best of luck! This week, I'm just quietly celebrating not bursting into tears during my day job or quitting in a temper ;). Here's to a lovely relaxing weekend!
