Celebrate the small things

Writing this post on Thursday evening and I have to start by saying what a lovely sunny day we enjoyed here today, I hope it continues for a while. Our summer has not really shown itself yet, maybe it's waiting for the school holidays which are now fast approaching. However, the damp but warm weather has seemed to suit the garden well. The fruit bushes are bearing a good crop and we have so much rhubarb I don't know what to do with it all! Any suggestions for favourite recipes appreciated!

My patio rose also seems to be doing well with its lovely pink blooms. A close friend gave me this special 'Pearl' rose for our wedding anniversary last year.

We have been sorting out some old boxes from the attic this week and it has been fun revisiting some old memories like our girl's first shoes and a few outfits I couldn't part with when they grew up. I can not believe they are all grown-up now, seems like only five minutes has passed since they were little!

Finally this week I want to celebrate chocolate. I've probably eaten too much of it this week, but I felt in need of it. Do you ever get that feeling?

Happy weekend

  1. My craving is for Hot Tamales...
Hope you get a real summer soon. Ours hit early May.
Besides pie, I don't know what else people use rhubarb for.

  2. Hopefully summer decides to touch down. Life sure does fly by fast.

  3. I hope summer puts in an appearance soon. I love the pearl roses! I noticed that during the last 3 months that I haven't worked on my WIP that I've wanted less sweets and chocolate. I'm about to start on it again, so we'll see if my sugar intake goes up, which would prove writing a book is more stressful than launching a book. (To me anyway.)

  4. Hi Suzanne - I love rhubarb ... crumble ... but try it with other fruits ... also rhubarb and ginger jam and pickle ... upside down cake ... or freeze it for later on ... eat the strawberries, raspberries and redcurrants - delicious. Well done on the clear out ... not so keen on chocolate - but of course eat too much ... I'll be fruit eating my way through summer ... take care and enjoy the weekend - looks like it's warming up - cheers Hilary

  5. Lovely post! Some of my favourite things in the photos too - you've cheered me up. The news stories are so awful at the moment, the only thing to do is focus on the little things in life. I'm going to try to follow your lead x

  6. I love strawberry rhubarb pie and jam. My grandma used to make a rhubarb sauce that we'd smother over our toast. Yummy. Once I start on chocolate, I can't stop.

We've had bad, good, and great summers. This year, so far, its a good one. Hope it turns for you!

  8. I don't eat a lot of chocolate, but when I get that craving nothing else will satisfy it! I love rhubarb crumble, I've been meaning to make one for ages now. Have a great weekend!

  9. I made my daughter and her friend cupcakes with chocolate frosting this week. Needless to say, that's one set of leftovers that has been eaten. By me. Darn it.

  11. Now, I'm longing for strawberries and rhubarb. I use to be a chocolate monster, but now that I'm older, the urge comes only every now and then. I wonder how strawberries, rhubarb and chocolate would taste. . .

  12. I'm always in favor of celebrating I can't help you with rhubarb. I remember helping my grandma make some jams and pies but it's not something I eat a lot of.

  15. The need for chocolate.....daily.
Your fruits and rhubarb look delicious. And your rose bush is beautiful.

  16. Ooh! Now I want chocolate too. We have a Greek yogurt/cottage cheese mix with berries most mornings, so I know what I'd be doing with those. Mmm. My grandma made great rhubarb jelly. Mmm.

Summer is pretty much over in my book. We've started back into school...trying to get the routine back. Oye!

  17. Beautiful rose bush, Suzanne. I hope the ideal weather comes along very soon. You know the type - not too cold, not raining (but just enough in the evening so we don't have to go out and water the garden) and not too hot. Does the perfect weather exist? :):) Have a fun summer!
