Celebrating the new month and weathering the changes ahead . . .

Never forget to look up . . . you may be surprised what you will see

Welcome to September, can you believe it? I have been away from the blog, well most online activities, for a couple of weeks. I think it does you good to step away for a while and have a internet detox! Anyway I thought I'd drop in and update the blog and see what everyone has been up to.

I've been enjoying time with friends, going for some nice walks, reading and mulling over some writing ideas. And best of all, I enjoyed a week away to Majorca. Lots of sunshine and general lazing around.  It was great to spend some time with the family as things are about to change around our house . . .

Firstly, our youngest daughter is heading back to university for her final year next weekend. She has been home for about three months, gaining some relevant work experience locally and generally taking a study break.

And then our eldest daughter is flying the nest the following week as she has bought her own home with her boyfriend. It's not too far away so I know I'll still see her lots but it's still a big step on the road to independence. I am so proud of them both and happy for them but I am not quite sure how I'm going to feel for a while. It'll be quiet round here but I guess I'll throw myself into my writing! I'm trying to think of it as the next chapter in my life!

It is also time to go back to the 'day job' next week and I know that will have a few changes in store for me as well.

Flowers in the Spanish sunshine . . . so cheerful

Maybe the stars have just aligned and decided to throw lots of adjustments at me at once! It'll all be fine . . . change is part of life and without it we can't move forward, I just need to take a deep breath and embrace it. But please bear with me . . . it may take me a week or two to settle into some new routines. Who knows, maybe it'll be my time to shine too.

Look ahead . . . you never know what's on the horizon

   Happy Friday

  1. That's right - why spread the trauma around? Get all the changes over at once.
Don't worry, Mom. The girls will be all right.
Now, get ready for some writing time.

  3. Hi Suzanne - sounds like just what you needed ... space, time to unwind, a holiday and reasonable weather here. But - it's great the girls are doing good - and wonderful your eldest is going to be living nearby ... fun for them, while good for you knowing you'll see them. The youngest - good luck for her last year ...

You will have lots of extra time .. that'll be good - cheers Hilary

  6. I'm looking forward to some writing time as well (fingers crossed). Just a few more days...

Breaks from blogging are good. I hope to at least slow down for November through January.

  7. Majorca sounds wonderful and the palm tree sure looks familiar... Your attitude about the coming changes is very mature and open-minded. Yes, this is a new chapter in your life and you'll do great things with it! Have a lovely weekend!

  8. It must be very quiet in your house now. I imagine I would get a lot of writing and drawing done when my kids grow up and find a place of their own. It would probably be a weird feeling. I won't know until I get there, though.

  11. That will be strange to have a quiet house suddenly. Good luck with all the adjustments.

  12. After getting my 5 kids out the door, it's been too quiet. But I finally find time to write. They always come home (which I love) and now I have 2 grand babies that I'm babysitting 3 days a week. So its like I'm starting all over again....

Love you pictures. More people should look up!!!

  13. First off, congratulations to both of your daughters as more and more comes there way. That aside, I can't wait for the weather changes. I grew up in the cold and ice, so living in the south-west now during Summer is almost unbearable. Love me some fall and winter-time.

  14. I know it's hard when your children move away. It is a big adjustment. I think it's good to concentrate on how proud you are of them and what they've accomplished.

  15. Hi Suzanne,

Ah yes, the empty nest. Time for reflection, adjustment and yes, a positive writing road ahead for you. I think I shall visit Majorca.

    Have a peaceful weekend.

  17. Isn't it funny how all the parenting magazines are filled with advice on how to raise children but there doesn't seem to be any advice for parents to cope when the children leave home. It's a big readjustment for us mums. However, I'm sure you'll fill those quiet moments. Wishing your daughters lots of fun and success in their studies. Beautiful pictures, Suzanne.
