A trip to Avebury stone circle

Can you believe it's the start of a new month again already! The weather here has not been great, certainly not like summer, so hoping things will start to pick up soon.

If you are a regular visitor to my blog you may recall me mentioning a trip somewhere new. Well, a couple of weeks ago, I had the opportunity to visit Avebury in Wiltshire. Avebury henge and stone circles date back to prehistoric times. Within the henge is the largest stone circle in Britain and originally consisted of around 100 stones. There are actually three circles set within one another. It is quite an amazing sight and the photos don't really do it justice. If you ever get a chance to visit I can certainly recommend it. And you can easily wander around the stones and explore them at your leisure.

More information can be found here

See how close to the houses in the village the stones are

           Happy weekend

  5. I went to London for a class trip many years ago and we visited a place outside the city with ancient rock formations that wasn't Stonehenge. I can't remember what it was called though.

  6. I visited Stonehenge once. I wonder how many hinges there are in England. There is something so haunting about these circles.

  7. It's kind of sad that we don't know what Stonehenge and the circles at Avebury were made for. I think it must be religious, but who knows? I didn't realize there were other stone circles in Britain, so thanks for the info and have a great weekend!

  15. It looks like those were once the fence posts of an ancient pen or home. Fascinating.
