Embrace the insecurity

Welcome to the October gathering of the Insecure Writer's Support Group. The place to discuss our thoughts or worries without fear of judgement and the opportunity to offer a few words of support and encouragement to others.

Thanks to our host Alex J. Cavanaugh and this month's co-hosts TB Markinson,Tamara Narayan, Shannon Lawrence, Stephanie Faris, and Eva E. Solar

I have been thinking about the different reasons for insecurity this month. What is it exactly that makes me feel insecure? Is it fear of failure or the nagging voice that makes me doubt myself? Maybe it's to do with the anxiety that comes along with putting your work out there for others to judge. The truth is it's all these things and more! But will this make me give up? NEVER because that would be the biggest failure of all.

I feel pretty certain there isn't a published author out there who hasn't experienced the exact same feelings at one time or another. And that gives me hope. So embrace the insecurities I say, it's part of the process and we can learn from it and grow stronger.

  1. Some days, I can experience a roller coaster of emotions and let me tell you, it's not fun. Our minds really know how to torture us. All part of being a writer and human. This group is awesome though, there are so many wonderful peeps who help us stay sane and focused on the positives.

  2. This is so true; the only time we truly fail is when we stop trying.

  9. I don't think we could even write if we didn't have insecurities. It's what keeps us going when the words don't seem to want to come. Glad you're not letting them take your spirit away.

    1. We get insecure because we care and that is an important thing to remember because it means we want to do our best. Thanks for stopping by Ken.

  16. Hi Suzanne! Whenever insecurities creep in, I think of all the amazing young kids I've worked with over my teaching career. As a teacher I asked them to do so many new, scary, challenging things every day and accepted no opting out. They had to go for whatever! Each of them was a courageous and wonderful thinker and experimenter, and it was my job to pull out their best. So when I get whinny and insecure, I think of my awesome students and all that they taught me! Ohh ~ You may just have given me a topic for November's IWSG post!!! I'll have to see how I can run with it Thanks! Happy writing!
