IWSG (September)

Wow, can you believe it's September already? Seriously, where did the summer holidays go? And really that's where my insecurities lie at the moment.  The last couple of weeks I have been working really hard on my writing and achieving a word count far in excess of my  usual amount. It's been great, I've enjoyed being able to make writing my priority for a while, I've felt like a true writer in every sense.  If you read my celebrations post last week you will know I have even set up a special writing area in the spare bedroom. So, why the insecurity?

I start back at my regular day job tomorrow and I'm not sure I'm ready to let go of the full time writer in me! I know I will still write and have even thought hard about setting aside specific times to maintain the momentum. But it will be different and I know that sometimes it is hard to write in an evening when you're tired. So I'll see how the next month goes and hopefully I'll be back next IWSG to tell you I was worrying over nothing!

  1. Hi Suzanne, pleased you've been so busy with your writing and all goes well with the result. Weatherwise August here have been so rainy all the holiday makers were the ones I felt sorry for.
    Have a good day.
    Yvonne.

  2. Hi Suzanne - good luck with the settling back into - to a degree of normality ... the writing will carry on - perhaps a tape recorder/smart phone to record those snippets you think about ...

Enjoy all things - cheers Hilary

    1. I think it will make a big difference, Cherie. I know things will stay where I leave them and I don't have to tidy all my little notes away!

  4. You'll have less time, but hopefully you've set up a pattern of writing that will continue. Just don't lose and the joy and keep at it!

  7. Day jobs do get in the way, but if I don't write, my head might explode.

  8. My day job is ghostwriting, so I'm always writing but not often on my own stories, so I get your concern. You just have to keep at it as and when you get the chance. X

  12. Wishing you the best in getting back to work! That's about how I felt about starting the new school year. Still trying to get my feet under me, but we'll both get there, eh?

  14. That's great that you're making progress in your writing! I don't think you have to let go of your inner full-time writer. You can always work at this job when you're done at the other job.

  16. There's definitely going to be a slowdown in your writing, but don't let that get you down. As long as you're making progress, that's all that's important. Good luck with your job.

  17. Having less time to write certainly will make you prioritize more. And yes, there will be days when you'll just be too tired to write, and that's okay too. Even if you just write 200 words or even 50, you've written something and that's a good thing.

    1. Thanks for that reminder, Lynda! Even when you're wiped out 50 words seems doable! Have a good one!

  19. Hi Suzanne! Congratulations on working as a real writer over the summer holidays! Now that you have some momentum, I'm hoping that you can keep it going. It is hard to write at night after you've been working all day! (Or traveling!). Good luck at your day job today! Take care!

  21. Hi human, Suzanne,

Ah yes, getting back to work with the passion of being a full-time writer. The balance will be challenging and yet, I know you will find that happy medium.

    All the beast, um, best.

    Pawsitive wishes and doggy kisses,

    Penny xx

  22. Good luck with going back to work and keeping the writing momentum going. The one good thing I've found is that even if you're not physically writing, you'll find you're focusing on your characters and scenes during every free moment of your day and getting closer to your project because of it. :)

  23. Silly day job, getting in the way of writing like that! I hope you're able to keep up your momentum once you're back at work. I can understand why you're worried you won't, though, since time is already so fleeting!
