So, I am celebrating;
- An old school friend is coming to stay. We have known each other for, *pause for quick mental calculation* 37 years - wow! Looking forward to catching up and then she and her family are going to house/animal-sit for us for a few days while we go away for a holiday!
- Editing - dived into revisions this week and made some unexpected progress. I say progress - not in actual words written so much, but in a plot change. I'm quite excited about the changes, even though it will mean extra revisions, but I think it will make the story much stronger. Deleting whole sections of your work can be scary but weirdly liberating at the same time!
- Finally getting my Christmas present! Last weekend we went to London to see Phantom of the Opera. It was the first West End Musical I saw twenty something years ago and I have always wanted to see it again, so was very excited when I received tickets last Christmas. It was well worth waiting for and every bit as good as I remember. The songs are still whizzing around my head and bursting out at odd moments! Much to family's consternation as I can't sing a note - not in tune anyway!
- Whilst we were in London we popped along to Trafalgar Square and saw the bright blue cockerel as featured in Hilary Melton-Butcher's recent post. On route we also saw the Glockenspiel and, like Hilary, we stood watching while it chimed for 5 minutes. Hilary has much better pics of it than I do, so head to her blog if you want to see it. Thanks for the tip Hilary.
Well, not a bad lot of celebrations. As I said, I plan to take a couple of weeks away from the blog to enjoy extra time with friends and family. Hopefully, when I return, I will feel refreshed and have some more interesting things to blog about. I will hop around a few blogs today and possibly over the weekend and then I will catch up with you all mid-August. Can you even believe it's the 1st of August today?
Have fun, stay safe, see you soon.
Hi Suzanne - many thanks for link across .. and am so pleased you enjoyed your time in London, particularly seeing the Phantom of the Opera once again ... and then 'my' blue cockerel and the Glockenspiel ... so pleased you had a chance to listen to it ..
ReplyDeleteand then confirm you and hubby thought I was right re the size of the figures - 2 feet for the humans, 18 inches for the animals ..
Enjoy the time away and seeing old friends ... happy times - cheers Hilary
Thanks again for the tips, Hilary. Have a lovely weekend.
DeleteDear friends, musicals at the West End (I saw Les Miserables there on my way to Paris years ago), savoring a fellow blogger's tidbit in person - those are lovely!
ReplyDeleteI hope your weekend is splendid!

It's certainly eye-catching!
DeleteSounds like a wonderful Christmas Present! Have a nice weekend.
ReplyDeleteHehe, yes worth waiting for!
DeleteSing anyway, even if it off key!
ReplyDeleteWell, yeah I do quite often, Alex! Oops now I've made it rain!
DeleteEditing can be scary but you're right, it feels very liberating once you start figuring things out. Enjoy your break!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sarah :)
DeleteSounds like an awesome time indeed. Enjoy your break!
ReplyDeleteI hope so Pat!
DeleteI wondered how you liked Phantom. Seems you did and so much more while you were in the city.
ReplyDeleteI just love musical theatre, Lee :)
DeleteIts fun to meet old friends Suzanne. Have a nice weekend.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Rachna :)
DeleteYes! I'm going through the same editing situation. I wish us both luck! I'm glad you enjoyed your London trip. Have a great time with your friend and a good bloggy break (but not too long - I'll miss you). :)
ReplyDeleteI won't stay away too long, Lexa. Hope the editing progresses well for you.
DeleteYou went to London to see Phantom of the Opera? I am jealous!!!
ReplyDeleteI hope you enjoy your blogging break. :)
It was brilliant!
DeleteHave a great holiday!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Laura :)
DeleteSounds like you have many things to celebrate. I saw Phantom in London about 20 years ago too. We had the worst seats - behind a pillar - and missed the whole chandelier thing. People kept asking what I thought of it, and I had no idea what they were talking about!
ReplyDeleteOh dear what a shame - the chandelier is impressive! Maybe you'll get another chance to see it one day.
DeleteThe songs from Phantom always hang around in my head for a long time. We saw Evita in May, and those songs are still popping in from time to time :-)
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a good blogging break!

I love musicals, but haven't seen one in a long time. The hubs can't stand them(crazy, I know!). Enjoy your time w/your school pal and your holiday as well!
ReplyDeleteThose are some great celebrations! I hope you enjoy your blogging break!
ReplyDeleteHi, Suzanne. Enjoy your time away from blogging. Have a wonderful time with family and friends.

ReplyDeleteHave a good week.
Yvonne.
Wow! That sounds like a bunch of big celebrations to me! How wonderful. Of course, I'd have to cross an ocean to catch Phantom of the Opera in London, so you can understand how thrilled I'd be.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week!

Enjoy your break, Suzanne!
ReplyDeleteI saw The Phantom years ago and just reading this made me want to see it again. Glad you had such a nice time.
August, I know! The year is speeding by WAY too fast. We'll blink and it will be Christmas, eh?
ReplyDeleteThinking up plot changes can be exciting, but they always come at the cost of extra revisions. But if they make the story better, you have to do it. Good luck with the revisions.
ReplyDeleteYay for friends, trips, and plays! I've missed several weeks of Celebration posts too...glad I'm not the only one!
ReplyDeleteWow! Not a bad lot at all! Congrats on your visit to London (so jealous!), a wonderful trip with your friend (37 years is quite an accomplishment!) and your upcoming holiday! Have fun!!
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed The Phantom of the Opera!
ReplyDeleteThat is so nice that you've kept in touch with your friend that long!
