IWSG Post for February

Thanks to our host Alex J. Cavanaugh

Twitter hashtag is #IWSG

Thanks also to co-hosts for this month Sheena-kay Graham, Julie Musil, Jamie Ayres, and Mike Swift

My goal for 2014 was to keep moving forward with my writing. Last month I wrote that my key words for the year were going to be positivity and focus. These two words still sum up my attitude but the last few weeks have taught me that I have to be flexible with my plan. Some weeks I have managed to add over 2000 words to my ms whilst other weeks have been far less productive! It is just the way my life is at this time, but you know what? I'm ok with that, I'm still moving forward and that is progress, however small and I am still focusing on where I want my writing to go. So my message today is this ...

You fail only if you stop writing
Ray Bradbury
And I certainly don't intend to stop!

Sorry this post is late in the day for some. I had it all prepared and then the storms battered Cornwall and power was off and on for hours. Whilst power is on at the moment, internet connection seems very slow so apologies if I don't get round many blogs today! Normal service will be resumed a.s.ap!

  1. Stay safe in the storms!
Even a little bit is still a step towards the goal, right?

  2. Positivity and focus are two things I am going to borrow from you Suzanne. Need them badly.

  3. Being flexible in our goals is important, and is the only way for us to achieve. I hope you continue to make progress! :)

And I love that quote by Ray Bradbury!

    1. It's one of the reasons I tend not to set strict writing targets. I think I would get too frustrated when I didn't achieve them!

  4. So true. The only way to guarantee you won't fail is to not try. =)

  5. Right. Small steps, big steps, no matter. The only thing that matters is that one doesn't get stalled in the same place, or moving backwards. Keep going!

  7. Each book gets easier to write. Took two years for me to complete my first. Now I feel I can write two a year. Just have to keep on keeping on.

  9. How true.... to keep writing,

We had awful storms in the night crashing my pc, been all day getting it back, should have unplugged the modem.

    1. The storms have been terrible haven't they? Calmer today here but apparently the next one is on it's way by Saturday! Take care.

Yvonne, I tried to leave a comment on your post today but it came back to my inbox as undelivered mail. I will try again later and see if it was just a glitch.

  10. I like your positive and focused goal. And you shouldn't get peeved when each week isn't extremely productive. That's called life. Just keep up the great attitude.

  11. I've always like that Bradbury quote, so true.
Keep going, I like your attitude, as little as our productivity is, it really is still progress ;)

  12. For many writers, productivity varies from week to week, especially since we all have our lives outside of writing. I like your positive attitude. Keep it up! =)

  13. I haven't written anything in 2014 in my WIP. It's been marketing madness for the novel that came out a week ago, and I still have another 2 weeks before I'll have time to write again . . . sigh. Don't beat yourself up though. You'll make up for it later when the muse strikes :-) Great to meet you here today!

And yes, flexibility is an excellent virtue. Onward!

  18. This is the reason I took my writing sticker chart (with gold stars) off the wall and tore it into pieces. The daily failure to meet my targets just wasn't helping. Keep the faith, Suzanne xx

    1. I will, Helen, thanks. A sticker chart eh! Can understand why you shredded it! x

  19. Watching the beautiful West Country being battered by waves has been breaking my heart. So many happy memories of those places. It seems we're in the same boat as far as writing time goes - and it's good to know that the professionals don't rush! I feel a lot better now!

  20. Suzanne, you've managed to sum up my attitude to my writing this year perfectly :). I keep putting off my writing, or feeling bad when I don't get to write every day and then make excuses up as to why I can't write any more...but I know that so long as I DO keep writing and don't abandon it completely, it doesn't matter if I can't write every day :). I just need to stay focussed and keep going - after all, it's a marathon, not a sprint ;) (yeah, cheesy, I know...)
Good luck and happy writing :)!

  21. Great message! Unless writing is your full time job and you have no family, pets or other responsibilities it is impossible to spend as much time writing as we would like. I am glad to see that you are okay with it.

  23. My prayers are with you during all the bad weather and floodings Suzanne. I've seen so much of it on the news, so I hope your family and home are safe. We've had a lot of rain down here but nothing like what you've had.

Just keep moving forward with the writing. It's always going to be hard on some days especially when you've got other priorities to take care of but the quote you used says it all. Hoping you have a really nice weekend, even if it's in-doors.

  24. Sorry about the bad weather. Hope all is well by now. Congrats on those 1,000 words.
