Thankful on Friday and a red balloon

Rest in peace, Andrew
In memory of Andrew McDonald McNoughton 1994 - 2013

****

This week I'm posting more of a 'I'm Thankful for' type of post and they're BIG things, not small.  When we are surrounded by sadness and natural disasters I think it is important we recognise how lucky we are.

* I'm thankful for my family, my husband and two daughters.
* I'm thankful for my home.
* And I'm thankful for the food on my table.

In the UK it is 'Children in Need' day. A chance for everyone to do their bit, however small, to raise funds for disadvantaged children and young people. I'm wearing my pyjamas to work today and making a donation for the privilege! Are you taking part in anyway?

Further afield there is the terrible typhoon that hit the Philippines. Thousands have lost homes and loved ones. Visit Authors for the Philippines to find out how you might be able to help.

I am unlikely to have internet access much over the weekend so will catch up with you all on Sunday/Monday.

Wishing you a peaceful weekend.

  1. Those are truly things to be grateful for and the catastrophes certainly put our daily worries in perspective. I'm intrigued by the pajamas idea. I'm imagining bunches of people on the streets of London and on the tube wearing pj's and nightgowns! Have a great weekend! :-)

  2. Hi Suzanne ..we always need to remember there are many much worse off than us - Certainly Children in Need raises the profile and brings in added support ..

The Philippines typhoon aftermath and continuing rains, lack of support reaching far enough for many survivors .. is just terrible to think about ..

With thoughts for one and all - Hilary

  3. Conversely I am actually dressed today - I usually spend a large percentage of my time in pyjamas, that's what happens when you write at home all day and go out to work in the evenings.

Your list is a very important one. I try to be grateful for those things on a regular basis because they can so easily be gone.

    1. It felt strange going out in pjs to start with but it was surprisingly comfy!

  10. That is a great list of things to be thankful for. Right now is stressful for me and I keep reminding myself, this is all good stress. Too many people in this world right now are stressing over terrible events. So sad.

  11. We really are surrounded by sadness, just this week I had to attend a funeral also. I pray for Andrew's family as well as those affected in the Philippines.

Great things to be thankful for, by the way ;)

    1. I hope that Nick and his family will be able to take some comfort from the blogging community. I visited one of the smallest churches in the UK this weekend. It can only be reached on foot as it is up a mountainside. Friday evening I stood in the little church and said a prayer for Andrew. It was so peaceful there.

  12. Yes. This. I'm holding my children a little bit tighter at the moment - and feeling fortunate. (Also ashamed that my last comment on your blog was one long grump about not landing a book deal. Healthy dose of perspective this week!)

    1. We all need to let of steam sometimes (I do it all the time!) Perspective is a good word to use, Helen. Hope you had a good weekend.

  15. Hi Suzanne,

And the memory of Andrew, symbolised by a red balloon of unity, worldwide, testimony to the caring and sharing for Nick and his family.

We have much to be thankful for. You realise how blessed you are and your gratitude resonates within your posting. There's a lot of devastation out there and we see folks wanting to help and we note the resilient spirit of those in the Philippines.

Wishing you and your loved ones, a peaceful week ahead.
